Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)

Introduction

Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) is a programme promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow people from all over the world who fulfil certain criteria, to stay in Malaysia on a social visit pass with a multiple entry visa. The Social Visit Pass is valid for a period of ten (10) years, depending on the validity of the applicants' passport, and is renewable.

There are many unique points about Malaysia that make it attractive for older people, particularly from Europe and Japan, to live where it is cheaper and the weather pleasant.

Malaysia has a pleasant balmy weather with moderate rain. The standard of living is high with modern infrastructure and facilities, good medical facilities and international education while the cost of living is low. English, the country's second language, is widely used. Barisan Nasional, the ruling Government, is the longest serving Government in the world. The country, therefore, is one of the most politically stable countries in the world.

Eligibility

It is open to all foreign citizens except:
  • Those married to Malaysians
  • Holders of an Expatriate Pass (Work Permit) and their dependants
  • Holders of a Student Pass
  • Citizens of Israel, Serbia and Yugoslavia
Applicants are allowed to bring along their spouse and children (below 18 years of age and not married).

Terms and Conditions

Successful applicants are required to comply with the following financial criteria upon receipt of the 'Conditional Approval Letter' from Malaysia Immigration Department.

I. Applicants aged below 50 years old
  • Open a fixed deposit account of RM300,000.00.
  • After a period of one year, the participant can withdraw up to RM240,000.00 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes.
  • Must maintain a minimum balance of RM60,000.00 from second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this programme.
II. Applicants aged 50 years and above
  • Can either choose to:
    a) Open a fixed deposit account of RM150,000.00 ;
      OR
    b) Show proof of monthly off-shore income of RM10,000.00 such as pension scheme.
  • After a period of one year, participant who fulfills the fixed deposit criteria can withdraw up to RM90,000.00 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes.
  • Participant must maintain a minimum balance of RM60,000.00 from the second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this programme.
Participants under this programme may withdraw their entire fixed deposit anytime should they decide to terminate their stay in Malaysia under this programme by first obtaining prior approval from the Ministry of Tourism.

Medical Report

All applicants and their dependents (spouse and children) are required to submit a medical report from any private hospital / registered clinic in Malaysia.

Medical Insurance

Successful participants and dependents (spouse and children) must possess a valid medical insurance policy which is applicable in Malaysia.

Incentives

I. House Purchase
Each participant is entitled to purchase up to two units of residential homes, each priced at RM150,000 and above.

II. Car Purchase
Each participant is entitled to bring in his/her own personal car which was purchased by participant before joining the MM2H programme ;
   OR
to purchase a locally-assembled car without the need to pay import duty, excise duty and sales tax.

III. Domestic Helper
Each participant is allowed to apply for one maid; subject to the prevailing guidelines of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

IV. Education
Dependent children of participants who are aged under 18 years old and not married and who intend to continue their schooling in Malaysia are required to apply for a Student Pass and should be insured throughout their stay under this programme.

Application

Applications can be submitted while the applicant is in Malaysia or from overseas.

All applicants who wish to apply to stay in Malaysia under MM2H Programme must submit the following documents for themselves and dependents (if accompanied by spouse and children):

1. Letter of Application (Cover Letter)
  • Names of all who are applying with you
  • Briefly describe how you will support your stay in Malaysia (financial capabilities)
  • Which financial criteria you wish to use ; either Fixed Deposit or monthly off-shore income (for aged 50 years and above)
2. Two (2) copies of Form IM.12 (Social Visit Application Form)

3. Two (2) passport-sized photographs

4. Certified true copies of all pages of Passport or travel document

5. A certified true copy of Marriage Certificate (if accompanied by spouse)

6. A certified true copy (s) of children's birth certificate (if accompanied by Children)

7. Resume with 10 years of working experience

8. A certified true copy of the latest bank statement and/or other related financial document to indicate the financial capability to support stay in Malaysia

9. A copy of Medical Report

10. A copy of Medical Insurance, applicable in Malaysia

Restrictions

  • Participants under MM2H Programme are not allowed to work/be employed while staying in Malaysia.
  • They should not participate in activities that can be considered as sensitive to the local people or a threat to the national security.
